Bhutan Confirmed for Inaugural Eurovision Asia 2026

Bhutan has been officially confirmed as one of the founding participants of the inaugural Eurovision Song Contest Asia, following an announcement by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) on Tuesday, 31 March 2026.

The Himalayan kingdom will be represented by its national public broadcaster, Bhutan Broadcasting Service (BBS), joining nine other countries in the first edition of the new international music competition.

The announcement marks an important moment for Bhutanese music, giving the country's artists an opportunity to perform on an international stage as part of Eurovision's first major multi-country expansion beyond Europe.

Bangkok selected to host the inaugural contest

The EBU confirmed that Bangkok, Thailand, would host the first Eurovision Song Contest Asia, with the Grand Final scheduled for Saturday, 14 November 2026.

The event is being organised by the European Broadcasting Union and Voxovation, in cooperation with Thailand's S2O Productions and Channel 3, which will serve as the host broadcaster.

According to the announcement, the competition aims to bring together the musical identities and cultural diversity of participating Asian countries, while building on Eurovision's long-standing concept of connecting audiences through music.

Organisers also highlighted the potential to reach an audience of more than 600 million people across the region.

Bhutan among the ten founding participants

At the time of the announcement, ten countries had confirmed their participation in the inaugural edition:

  • Bangladesh – NTV

  • Bhutan – Bhutan Broadcasting Service (BBS)

  • Cambodia – TV5 Cambodia

  • Laos – Vientiane Capital Television (VTE9)

  • Malaysia – Media Prima (TV3)

  • Nepal – Himalaya TV

  • Philippines – ABS-CBN

  • Republic of Korea – produced by PK Inc.

  • Thailand – Channel 3

  • Vietnam – Vietnam Television (VTV3)

The EBU indicated that further countries could join the competition in the months leading up to the event.

For Bhutan, participation represented an opportunity to introduce its contemporary music scene to a much wider audience, while showcasing the country's cultural heritage through an original song and performance.

National selection expected in the months ahead

As part of the announced format, each participating broadcaster would select its representative through a national selection process in the months preceding the Grand Final.

BBS was therefore expected to organise Bhutan's selection and determine which artist and song would carry the country's flag to Bangkok.

At the time of the announcement, no representative, song or national-final date had yet been confirmed.

Bhutan's participation was nevertheless secured, placing the country among the ten broadcasters preparing for Eurovision Asia's historic first edition.

With the announcement of Bangkok as host city and the initial participating countries confirmed, the countdown to November 2026 officially began.
